Epinions The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-V1: Not Your Typical Point-and-Shoot

by  nghiemr,  Jun 24, 2003
Pros: More than a typical point-and-shoot camera, 5 MegaPixels, many manual controls.
Cons: Fairly expensive; slightly heavier and bulkier than some compact digital cameras.
The Bottom Line: The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-V1 is a fully-loaded, fun-to-use digital camera. It would make a great gift for the person who always wants the latest technology.
Review: After debating whether to buy the 5.0 MP Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P10 or the Canon Powershot S50, I opted ...

Epinions Get the same sensor, affordable batteries for 200 USD less

by  leisure_larry,  Jan 7, 2004
Pros: FAST, SHARP, manual shutter and aperture settings external flash connector hotshoe
Cons: Short Battery life, expensive compared to the DSC-P92
The Bottom Line: If you need professional features with a small and fast camera, this is the camera for you. If you need a fast camera only read about a better alternative.
Review: This review covers the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-V1 in comparison to it's smaller sibling the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P92. While I own the DSC-P92, I had the chance to operate both cameras, as a friend of mine owns the V1. I did quite some research on the ...

Epinions Opinions from a complete novice

by  wee-sid,  Jul 8, 2004
Pros: Extras galore, Carl Zeiss lens, no problems in bad lighting, novice friendly
Cons: Position of flash, battery life, memory stick costs, heavier/chunkier than other Sony compacts
The Bottom Line: I looked at a few cameras and chose this one due to extras, photo quality, Carl Zeiss lens, Quality of shots in dark places, point and click compatible
Review: My Background- As it says in the title this opinion is coming from the viewpoint of a novice/first time digital camera user . I did quite a bit of research on different cameras before settling for the V1. I've had the camera for about two weeks now and ...

by  duhidunno1,  May 10, 2004
Pros: Good images, nice styling, menus easy to navigate, manual features
Cons: Battery life, No black and white setting, Memory Stick price
The Bottom Line: Great Hi-res pictures. Good camera for point and shoot photographer who wants to try manual settings occasionally.
Review: I purchased the DSC-V1 recently to take high quality images, which can be blown up or used for presentations. I am by no means a professional photographer and have always been a point and shoot owner. We were given a DSC-P2 as a wedding present. Over ...

Epinions Quality and Style, Sony gets it right. Almost.

by  photon_7,  Nov 13, 2003
Pros: Size, style, nightshot, fully featured.
Cons: Easily confused white balance, small flash, fixed LCD.
The Bottom Line: Excellent value, highly recommended for amateurs who want to learn and enthusiasts alike.
Review: I did a great deal of research before buying this camera. My primary requirements were size, image quality, and style (yes, it has to look cool). I am coming from an SLR background, and my primary competition for this camera was the Canon G3 or G5. Af ...

Epinions The quality is exceptional... but talk about minor annoyances

by  hyperpengysan,  Jun 28, 2004
Pros: Size, image quality, features (including some mostly useless ones), excellent lens, price, solid build.
Cons: Size, terrible battery life, bad flash location, no solid camera hold.
The Bottom Line: Excellent features in a reasonably sized package and a very reasonable price. Exceptional images from an exceptional Carls Zeiss lens.
Review: First, I've owned the DSC-v1 for about 3 months now and I've taken nearly 1.5 gigabytes of photos with it. When I bought it, it was the best "bang for your buck" 5.0MP camera. For $500, 5.0MP camera, a huge range of features, an excellent movie mode ( ...

Epinions Will you take the V1 as your faithful digital camera?

by  jedi29,  Dec 10, 2003
Pros: Beautiful image quality, fast, hot shoe, build
Cons: hand grip, battery, built-in flash location
The Bottom Line: Excellent all around camera for novice and experienced users. Be sure test it for your self if you can forgive its weaknesses
Review: This is my third digital camera I have bought from Sony. The DSC V1 is a sharp silver 5 mega pixel DC that packs several features that will appeal to both the casual user and the expert. I am a casual photographer, the V1 is the camera I wanted to ...

Epinions It's good, but can I whine a little?

by  rookshark,  Nov 1, 2004
Pros: Small, nice pictures, easy to use, speedy at taking regular pictures
Cons: flash recharge time, power up and down time only 4X zoom
The Bottom Line: Tough, small, easy to use, great picture quality, just a few small things to improve for next year. If you buy it, you will not be sorry.
Review: As you can tell from my title, I do not have anything just blatantly negative to say about this camera. There are a ton of positives. First some background. My last and first digital camera was a Sony Mavica MVC-FD90. Otherwise, I have not used ...
